The Jerusalem International Chamber Music Festival, established in 1998, is one of the leading chamber music festivals in the world. Under its Musical Director, the pianist Elena Bashkirova, the Festival presents a varied programme of concerts featuring renowned Israeli and international musicians playing thematically-built programmes in diverse combinations of instruments. Each year, the festival commissions a new work which it premieres. Innovative programmes feature both well-loved compositions and explorations of new music with a roster of outstanding artists that includes rising young stars performing together with established musicians such as Martha Argerich, Gidon Kremer, Sir András Schiff, Emmanuel Pahud and Dorothea Röschmann amongst others.

Every spring since 2012, it has been a welcome guest at the Jewish Museum Berlin. The festival has found a second home in Berlin and an exceptional stage in the Glass Courtyard for its concept.
Promising young talents, members of top international orchestras, and renowned soloists celebrate the dialog between cultures and a love of chamber music with the audience.

2020 Festival: 15 Musicians, 3 Concerts, 1 Festival

Under the direction of Elena Bashkirova, Berlin artists celebrated their love of chamber music on the stage in the Glass Courtyard. In its ninth year, the festival brought prominant musicians such as Madeleine Carruzzo and Karl-Heinz Steffens together with outstanding new talent such as Clara Jumi Kang and Denis Kozhukhin.

Vienna, the Viennese, adoptive Viennese, and waltzes—the three-day program ranged from classics to modern music: Of course, there were Mozart, Schubert, and Brahms, but also Arnold Schoenberg and the great symphonic composer Gustav Mahler, whose rare chamber music work Piano Quartet in A minor was performed. Special highlights included the melodic delights of two waltzes by Johann Strauss the Younger, which were arranged for a "salon ensemble" by Arnold Schönberg and Anton Webern.

The concerts on 12 and 13 May were also broadcasted live on the radio, in cooperation with Deutschlandfunk Kultur.

Das Internationale Kammermusikfestival Jerusalem unter der Leitung der renommierten Pianistin Elena Bashkirova ist eines der wichtigsten Kulturereignisse Israels, das herausragende Musiker aus aller Welt zusammenbringt.

Seit 2012 ist es jedes Frühjahr ein gern gesehener Gast im Jüdischen Museum Berlin. Hier hat das Festival eine zweite Heimat und mit dem Glashof eine außergewöhnliche Bühne für sein Konzept gefunden.

Vielversprechende junge Talente, Mitglieder internationaler Spitzenorchester und renommierte Solisten zelebrieren mit dem Publikum den Dialog der Kulturen und die Liebe zur Kammermusik. 

Festival 2020: 15 Musikerinnen, 3 Konzerte, 1 Festival

Vom 12. bis 14. Mai 2020 erschien das Kammermusikfestival des Jüdischen Museums Berlin live in Ihrem Wohnzimmer, als außergewöhnliches Festival in außergewöhnlichen Zeiten konnten Sie einem Livestream von intonations lauschen.

Unter der Leitung von Elena Bashkirova zelebrierten Berliner Künstler auf der Bühne im Glashof ihre Liebe zur Kammermusik. In seinem neunten Jahr brachte das Festival Routiniers wie Madeleine Carruzzo und Karl-Heinz Steffens mit herausragenden neuen Talenten wie Clara Jumi Kang und Denis Kozhukhin zusammen.

Wien, die Wiener, Adoptiv-Wiener und Walzer - das dreitägige Programm reichte von der Klassik bis zur Moderne: Natürlich gab es Mozart, Schubert und Brahms, aber auch Arnold Schönberg und den großen Sinfoniker Gustav Mahler, dessen seltenes Kammermusikwerk Klavierquartett in a-Moll aufgeführt wurde. Besondere Höhepunkte waren die Melodien zweier Walzer von Johann Strauß dem Jüngeren, die von Arnold Schönberg und Anton Webern für ein "Salonensemble" bearbeitet wurden.

Das Oktett von Mendelssohn Bartholdy ist traditionell das Finale der Intonationen. Leider konnte es in diesem Jahr nicht aufgeführt werden; stattdessen stand neben dem Streichquartett ein Werk des Komponisten auf dem Programm, das thematisch auf das Oktett Bezug nimmt.

Die Konzerte am 12. und 13. Mai wurden in Zusammenarbeit mit Deutschlandfunk Kultur auch live im Radio übertragen.

Elena Bashkirova has been the president of the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Foundation since October 2020; she has taken over the artistic direction of the Mendelssohn Festival Leipzig for the Mendelssohn House. 

The Mendelssohn Festival has existed since 1997, founded by Kurt Masur, Gewandhauskapellmeister in Leipzig and founding president of the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Foundation, which renovated the Mendelssohn House and established it as a museum, and which maintains it to this day.

Today, the house is the centre for cultivating Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's rich legacy and conveys his work and history of influence in its unique collection as well as in exhibitions and concerts at the authentic location.The foundation operates and maintains the Mendelssohn House Leipzig and organises concerts worldwide in honour of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy.

Of course, Elena Bashkirova will provide further impetus: Projects such as an annual spring festival at the Mendelssohn House and other concerts with a fantastic cast of internationally renowned musicians are being actively planned.
